Private Cloud is Ripe for the Picking

Men will only throw stones at trees that are laden with fruit.  Indeed.

I wonder had IDC not released its forecast on server hardware spending if we would still be looking at a private cloud bashing week.  As it is, the cat is really out and we can never put a lid back on the growing interest on private clouds, comparisons with public cloud aside.

Still, one cannot deny that this all makes for really good discussion and fancy read, too.  I for one, totally enjoyed this piece, straight out of a fairy tale.  And not without merit, except that human decisions, even professionals, can be fuzzy at best.

While were at it, I might as well take advantage of putting out resources that would well suit CIOs looking for tips on how to get their cloud computing endeavors going.

Burton Group has kindly put out a nice press release highlighting 5 cloud computing adoption steps for CIOs that emphasizes the need for strategy to be able to reap full rewards for the enterprise.  Essentially it says that you cannot just go into cloud, unprepared.  Plus building a private cloud yourself is definitely no walk in the park. (Read one company's journey on how it built it's private cloud to better illustrate the importance of going through assessment and execution steps.)

On the bright side,  companies need not go through through the hassle of setting up one themselves as private cloud solutions are readily available now in the market.

Not that it necessarily means bad news for the public cloud.  If nothing else, the need for scale is something that will always drive enterprises towards it by way of the hybrid cloud.  Consider it a slight detour to profitability. Definitely nothing Amazon will lose sleep over – not with this piece of news.
