Morphlabs Celebrates Launch of OpenStack Foundation As A Founding Member

Submitted by Morphlabs on April 12, 2012

The Morphlabs team has been working towards a vision of open source cloud computing since 2007. We are honored and excited to be a founding member of the OpenStack Foundation.

This milestone is a strong signal that the OpenStack community is focused on delivering a sustainable CORE for an ecosystem of marketing — leading companies and innovators to develop products that promote broad adoption of easily-deployable but sophisticated cloud infrastructure. As an active participant of creation of projects at the Apache Software Foundation and a former director of the Eclipse Foundation, I am pleased that the shapers of the OpenStack Foundation did their due diligence in learning from the best practices of previous successful open source organizations.

The Rackspace team has been a good steward of the project from its early start. And, in the next few months, we are eager to participate in drafting of the charter of the Foundation with other members. We are proceeding with a totally open process. And I am confident that there will be an interesting interplay of ideas, from which the entire cloud community will benefit. It will be a lot of fun to see the how Foundation unfolds, given how quickly the OpenStack endeavor has picked up speed.

Good governance will help sustain the expert technical efforts of the OpenStack development community. And we look forward to channeling feedback from our industry experience! Stop by and meet us at the Design Summit and Conference in San Francisco next week. Morphlabs will have our top engineers in attendance to further discuss our plans.
